10 Ways Hard Working Professionals Reduce Their Health (and 5 Ways to Improve It)

A hard head and a hard heart will make you sick. Your physical health relies on a balanced head and a balanced heart. The condition of your head and heart are also important for your long term emotional, mental and spiritual health. You can have all the money in the world, but from my own experiences, as I’ve witnessed the death of friends and loved ones, it will never, ever be enough to save you or your loved ones from dying of cancer or some other horrific terminal illness. Some situations are reversible. Others are not. In the end, it depends on the condition of your spiritual health. Based on the condition of your spiritual health, approximate forward estimates for your physical health are possible. Some of the major clues can be found in your head and your heart. Here are 3 clues:

  1. If you have a hard head and a hard heart, then you will put your physical health in jeopardy if you continue to support this condition.
  2. If you have a soft head and a soft heart you will put your physical health at risk if you continue to support this condition.
  3. If you have a balanced head and a balanced heart then you will obtain and maintain your physical health for much longer than those whose heads and hearts are too soft or too hard.

You need your spiritual health to be strong if you want to experience long term physical health. To put it another way, if you don’t have a healthy spirit, then you won’t obtain or maintain physical health.

If you are sick, and you want to be well again, your spirit must be stronger than your illness. Your spirit must be strong enough to withstand your illness. It must be strong enough to conquer it. If you are sick at the moment, there is no other way to emphasize the urgency of this situation. If you leave, or have left the care of your spiritual health too late, then it will be too late. If you have:

  • Ignored your spirit, or
  • You’ve abused your spirit, or
  • You’ve bullied your spirit, or
  • You’ve squashed your spirit, or
  • You’ve dishonoured your spirit, or
  • These things have been done to you and your spirit by the hands of another, AND you’ve not been able to heal the event, or let go of it, or move on from the situation, or
  • You’ve given too much to others and you have not given enough to you, or
  • You’ve abdicated the responsibility for your spiritual health to another person or an external force, or
  • You’ve repeatedly sold out your spirit for the sake of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, political or economical gain, or
  • You’ve repeatedly compromised your ethics and values and beliefs for the sake of fame, fortune, approval or recognition, or
  • You’ve repeatedly favoured what you can see over what you can’t see, such as money, work, possessions, body image and social image.

If you’ve participated in the above activities unwittingly up until now, then NOW is the right time for you to became conscious of your spiritual health. If you have CONSCIOUSLY participated in the above activities, then you need to improve your spiritual health NOW. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not even in one hour. You need to act now to improve your spiritual health. When you improve your spiritual health your physical health is given the best chance to improve.

Stress has long been proven to play a large role in all types of illness. Stress comes in a number of forms. Read more about that here. One major form of stress is a guilty conscience, but any unresolved negative emotion or mental outlook will evolve into chronic or acute stress.  Prolonged stress leads to anxiety and general dissatisfaction with life. Long term dissatisfaction with life leads to a search for happiness. If happiness is not found, then terminal unhappiness or depression comes next.  Terminal unhappiness and untreated depression reduces your immune system. Add to this a poor or weak constitution and inherited health factors, and the result is that you leave yourself vulnerable to all manner of illnesses.

Depending on your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual constitution, stress affects everyone in different degrees. Stress evolves into illness in a number of ways. Here are 2 Stress Pathways that lead to a lack of physical health:

Stress Pathway to Illness #1

  1. Stress brings on an initial reduction in your immunity to illness and disease followed by:
  2. Long term stress. May also bring on anxiety and panic attacks or:
  3. Dissatisfaction with life followed by:
  4. Reduced immunity
  5. General unhappiness. May also bring on depression or:
  6. Immunity reduced further
  7. Long term unhappiness. May also bring on depression or:
  8. Immunity reduced even further
  9. Terminal unhappiness. May also bring on depression, or:
  10. Resulting in illness and terminal disease

Stress Pathway to Illness #2

  1. Stress brings on an initial reduction in your immunity to illness and disease followed by:
  2. Anxiety
  3. Panic attacks
  4. Reduced immunity
  5. Depression
  6. Immunity reduced further
  7. Long term depression if left untreated
  8. Immunity reduced even further
  9. Terminal depression
  10. Resulting in illness and or terminal disease

Disorders in the first list are not confined to the first list pathway.  At any stage, due to a range of personal and external factors, first list disorders may roll over into second list disorders if intervention strategies for improving emotional and mental and spiritual health are inadequate, or have failed, or are not applied.

You can improve your spiritual health by giving your spirit a regular workout to build up your spiritual strength. Resistance training is one way to do it. Spiritual resistance training comes in the form of life challenges. Start by using the challenges in your life to strengthen the character of your spirit. Identify the emotional and mental qualities that you have gained from your difficulties. Your spirit won’t become stronger if you continue to play it safe and secure and comfortable all the time. Your spirit is like a child. You have to take care of it. You have to coax it in to new phases of growth and development. Life challenges provide your spirit with opportunities for a workout. Without a workout, your spirit grows weak and idle and unmoved. Your spiritual fitness disappears. You lose your spiritual power and the result is a drastic reduction in your spiritual health. Physical, emotional and mental health is not a long term possibility when you lack spiritual health.

If you are serious about your long term physical health, and you really want to ensure the strength of your spirit is obtained and maintained for the rest of your life, there are 5 things you need to do to improve your chances. Hard working professionals need to:

  1. Live in the present moment. Be here and now more often than not, by practicing regular mindfulness or meditation techniques. Read about how to do it here.
  2. Build up your spiritual strength by learning how to take advantage of your spiritual workouts. Try the Life Purpose Success Program here.
  3. Retrieve your spirit from the wounds and regrets of your past. Try the Life Balance Success Program here.

If your heart tells you that your health can wait, and your head agrees with this, then do nothing. Leave your health in the hands of fate.

If your heart tells you that the time to improve your spiritual health is now, and your head says yes too, then do it. Take your health into your own hands. Your life depends on it.
